The drill and blast excavation of the new 2’852 meters long south tube on the highway S 16 Arlberg between the sections Zams and Landeck West, the local bypass Landeck in Tyrol, is progressing rapidly. The breakthrough is expected this summer. The subsequent underground concrete work will last until spring 2018. The traffic in the existing tunnel will be routed in the new tube after its finalization. The existing, 33 years old tunnel tube will be refurbished as of 2019 and released again for the traffic at the end of the same year.
